Vintage Farmhouse Chowder
This farmhouse chowder is chock full of vegetables, ham and all the good stuff. When you eat a bowl, you’ve got a meal with all bases covered.
The best part of this recipe, is that your crockpot does the bulk of the work! Just add the ingredients and away you go.
Everybody is trying to fit in five servings of vegetables each day. Some days, that can be a challenge. Add this farmhouse chowder to your routine (it makes a great lunch) and you’ll have no trouble getting in five servings.
Generally speaking, a half a cup of cooked vegetables counts as a single serving. You’ll get three or four servings in a bowl of this soup.
Variations:
Add that container of leftover veggies that’s sitting in the fridge, when you add the broccoli. Or chop up some carrots, add some frozen peas and a few chopped cauliflower pieces at the beginning of the cook time.
If you don’t have some canned cream of celery soup on hand, or don’t want to use the canned versions, you can use this recipe for homemade Cream of Celery soup.
Make It a Meal:
I like this farmhouse chowder with some crackers and a glass of milk for lunch. However, you can make it a smaller part of the meal by serving only a cup of chowder alongside a sandwich.
Of course, a loaf of homemade bread with some butter makes a great light supper out of this farmhouse chowder.
