Tail Gate Chili
Hearty, warm, and filling chili. Just what the doctor ordered for tail gate parties and chili cook off competitions. This tomato and bean filled bowl of soup will have your guests coming back for more.
We went to supper at a friend’s house the other day. They said “It’s a Chili Cook Off! Bring chili!” I was pretty excited about that because 1. I love chili and 2. I love cook offs.
(A chili cook off is a competition to see who makes the best chili.)
My husband wasn’t as excited because “he doesn’t care for chili”.
We loaded up my crockpot full of chili and headed out the door for supper. We expected a total of 10-12 guests at this gathering so I was anticipating sampling at least 6 different chili recipes.
Can you say “Girl Gone Chili”?
Turned out that due to other obligations, there was a smaller group than expected and I only got to sample three pots of chili. No worries, I was still a happy girl.
The big surprise of the evening though? … my husband ate 6 bowls of chili.
Really!
Big Bowls of Chili! With Toppings! And He Loved It!
(note to self, sometimes he might say something that is based on a past experience and has nothing to do with the recipe being used at the current moment.)

Tailgate parties are a big deal during football season. It doesn’t seem to matter if the football team is PeeWee, High School, College or Pro … tail gating is a way to get warmed up while waiting for the kick off.
All you need to take your chili along to the tailgate party is a solid crockpot and some bowls. Spread your feast out on the tail gate of your pick up truck (where the name originated), inside the trunk of your car or on the picnic table in the parking lot. Invite a couple of friends over and you’re all set!
