Super Easy Key Lime Pie
Our favorite summer dessert is Key Lime Pie. Over the years we’ve tried many recipes, looking for the perfect blend of creaminess, sweetness and tartness. This super easy key lime pie recipe is the one.
Fans of key lime pie know, there are many ways to make a great pie. There’s also a lot of debate on fluffiness, custard and color. Traditionalists use the key limes, tiny limes of a specific variety. Non Traditionalists use any lime they can get their hands on.
Staying out of all the debate and trying to avoid controversy, I was looking for a pie that came together in short order and was full of creamy tart flavor. I’m no connoisseur of limes, but I suppose the traditionalists have a point – their limes have a unique flavor.
Living in north central Ohio, I have to make due with the limes I can find. Sometimes I get lucky and my grocer has key limes in stock. Usually, I’m working with regular limes. That was the case when I put this pie together.
You can see from the lime slices I used as garnish. They are not the tiny key limes. They were plenty tasty tart, however and did the trick.

The color of this key lime pie is a light golden, cream shade of ivory. Key lime pie isn’t green like the outside of the lime. If you grate the rind of the lime and mix the zest into the pie mix, you’ll have tiny flecks of green floating around.
I suppose you could add food coloring if you wanted a more brilliant green shade to your pie.
This recipe is so super easy, all you need are a few ingredients and about 15 minutes. This is a recipe even my husband would attempt. He likes good food, just doesn’t like the fuss involved with some recipes.
Truthfully, this is a recipe any beginner can make and feel like a success.

Make It a Meal:
Serve this after a light supper of salad and grilled fish, you’ll feel like you’re in the Keys! We also like it as dessert after #TacoTuesday. Perfect when you need something light to finish the meal.
Variations:
Make your own graham cracker crust. I used a pre-made crust for simplicity’s sake, but honestly a homemade crust isn’t really that hard. If you’ve got your grandma’s special recipe, use it!
Top with whipped cream if you’re looking to fancy up your pie. Again, a store bought whipped topping is simple, but home made whipped cream is something that won’t go wrong!

Camilla, it sure is … in fact, I just whipped up another one tonight. Going to serve it at the 4th BBQ tomorrow.
This sounds so delish and your pictures are so nice. How did you get such a perfect crust?!
LOL the secret this time is my great aunt ruth’s recipe … store bought.
When I make graham cracker crust from scratch they taste super wonderful, but they look like a kindergartener made them. For photos, I need pretty!
That looks so easy and produces such a creamy and gorgeous looking pie! I’m so impressed!!
Karen, it really is that easy. 4 ingredients, a whisk and away you go!
Key lime pie perfection! This is by far my favorite dessert of all times now I need a slice =)
Adriana, go get you a slice!! This is wonderful and TART!! lol
I love how easy this is. This looks amazing. I don’t really like key limes so maybe I can try this and would eat more of this with regular lime than with key lime.
Use regular limes, lemons, or even grapefruit. The citrus will interact with the sour cream and sweetened condensed milk regardless of which fruit it comes from.
Oh i love this pie, i tried a quicker no-bake version of this last week! I love the zest and flavor of the dessert!! this baked version looks delicious!!!
Priya, it only bakes for a few minutes, so it’s practically “no bake”!
My mother made this pie as a treat when I was a child. It was my favorite dessert! I haven’t had one in years and I don’t know why. Now I know what I am making for dessert today for the 4th of July!
It’s on our dessert table tonight, also!

It certainly is a quick way to make a special dessert. We really like the taste of lime so this would be ideal. I do have a favorite Key Lime Pie recipe but it is more labor intensive. Pinning!

This was seriously so easy and I’m literally in love with this 4 Ingredient recipe!!! I’m just scared once I make it this way, I might open the ‘On-Demand’ list for making it again and again
Great Recipe !!
And is it really a problem if this is “on demand”? LOL … I can think of worse things to have on that list!
I made key lime pie not long ago and just loved it. Such a treat, especially in summer time. A very delicate and indulgent dessert, I love the zesty kick from the limes. I could have some right now!
