Slow Cooker Coffee Rubbed Pork Roast — 46 Comments

    • Valentina, It’s fun trying an ingredient like coffee in different recipes … people are always so surprised to hear what my “secret ingredient” is.

    • Dannii,
This works really well with a drier slow cooker recipe … not much broth in the bottom, if any. This recipe actually relies on the pork juices to create the steam for cooking.

    • Emily,
This is a wonderfully tender meat – I’m afraid that my slow cooker has almost spoiled me for any other cooking method LOL. Let me know how your husband likes the pork roast this way.

  1. That looks like a great Saturday dish for a rainy day. Maybe one could add some sauerkraut to it too and bread dumplings? I think my friends in Europe need to check out your recipe, they will love it!

  2. I have used coffee rub on beef, but I was just wondering the other day if it would work on pork. According to this delicious recipe it sure does. Perfect…thanks for answering my question!! Love how coffee brings out the flavour of the meat so well.

    • You’re welcome, Gloria! It does very well on the pork. If you want to sweeten the pot, add a spoon of brown sugar or molasses … give it a try and let me know what your family thinks!

    • Sandhya, let me know how it works on tofu. I’ve had tofu only a couple of times and frankly wasn’t impressed – I think largely due to the preparation method. I may have to experiment myself with this one.

  3. This sounds so delicious and I love slow cooker recipes. I’ve never made homemade meat rub at home and totally loving your recipe. Have bookmarked to try later.

  4. I know coffee enhances the flavor of chocolate but have never tried it in a roast. Seeing how totally delicious your roast looks, it’s high time I try using coffee for flavoring my roasts, too!

  5. That’s a dish my father would love, he is a great meat eater, and pork is definitely his favourite. Using coffee must be unusually flavourful, I have never thought of using it with roast, but it sounds like a great idea. This roast has to be really delicious!

    • The coffee has acid in it, which helps tenderize the meat. The flavor blends with the other spices… it is a wonderful flavor. Treat your dad to a special dinner!

  6. This is gorgeous! Pork or chicken are my go-to recipes for the crock pot because they hold up so well. I haven’t been brave enough to try coffee on any of my meats and use it only for my hubby’s wake up cup or some baking recipes. Looks amazing and I think I will give it a try tomorrow!

  7. Question: what type of coffee do you use? Instant, or what type of grind? And if you don’t have to use instant, could you use maple flavored coffee?

    Thanks!

    • Elizabeth,
Use your favorite coffee! Maple flavored would be fabulous!
I have used both instant and grounds … dark roast and light roast … they all work well.
      Thanks for checking,
      Noel
