Simple Apple Danish
This simple apple danish recipe is so easy, anybody can make it. You won’t sacrifice flavor for the simplicity either! Warm out of the oven, this pastry is light, flaky, sweet and spiced; just perfect with a cup of coffee.
Relying on ready to use ingredients, this recipe is the epitome of #ConvenienceCooking. Of course, that’s the beautiful reason it’s called “simple apple danish”.
If you’ve got time, baking skills and patience, you could make a delightful danish from scratch. I would love to be able to do that. There are days when I have the time, and some days when I even have the patience. But most days, I don’t have the baking skills. I’m truly a novice baker.
Since so much of my cooking and baking has to be done around a really busy schedule, I haven’t worked on my baking skills. I’ve found it simpler to just use the easy to fix ingredients like canned apple pie filling and premade croissant dough.
You’ll notice in the pictures, I really didn’t even begin to attempt to hide the fact that I’ve used premade croissant dough. Because really, nobody at my house cares.
However, if you’re looking to make an impression on your family, you could work on sealing the perforations in the dough.
You’ll also notice in these pictures, I’ve got a family heirloom on display. The silver spoons belonged to my great-grandmother. My grandmother passed them along to me, with her hand written notes about what the silver is and who owned it.
I love having that bit of family history recorded in my grandmother’s handwriting.
Grandma was an old fashioned school teacher and her script was nearly perfect. All of her letters are formed exactly according to text book lessons, so she could set a good example for her students.

I’m sure many of my readers are as busy in life as I am. I thought once my kids move out and into their own homes, things would slow down a bit. I mean, no more after school extracurricular activities, no more home work, no more over nights at friends’ houses, no more friends spending the night here, less laundry, fewer errands and running around, no more craziness. Right?
Wrong. I suppose I’ve brought all my current busy-ness on myself, between working full time, blogging, running some etsy stores, helping my husband with our non-profit Rescued Rollers, and taking care of the house and pets. I like having a full life. I’m glad I spent all those years gathering up #ConvenienceCooking recipes!
Make It a Meal:
So, a simple apple danish is more like a snack than a meal. It is a perfect breakfast dish, all you need to add is a cup of coffee or tea and some protein like a spinach quiche, you’ll be set.
This also works well as a dessert. Throw a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and serve. The apple danish will be similar to the apple croissant cake shown below.

I LOVE the you have your family recipe in the photos… I also love that you use store-bought dough on occasion. I do that with some of my grandmas pie recipes… I mean I CAN make my own pie crust, but honestly sometimes I just don’t have the time! Cant wait to try this!!
Michele, you are way ahead of me in the pie crust game. I always buy it pre-made because I can’t make it to save my life. LOL
Semi-homemade, I dig it!
Semi home-made, totally home-baked!
Pre-made pastry is amazing for making stuff like this! I’ve used it to make all kinds of tarts and pies, but never a yummy apple danish. Can’t wait to give this a go!
Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone in my love for premade pastry!
My Aunt Bonnie makes something similar! Love the simplicity of this dish!
Lisa, I’ll bet you Aunt Bonnie is a better cook than my Aunt Bonnie! LOL Mine would rather knit and let my uncle do the cooking!
A delicious danish recipe, love it!
Patty, Thanks for stopping by!
Simple recipes like this are great. My kids would love this danish!
Jill, feed it to the kids! Heck, this is so easy, let the kids make it and you eat it!
I have been craving a Danish for the longest time. Since moving to the south, they just don’t make them in bakeries! Next time my mom is in town, I’d love to surprise her with this recipe, yum!
I’ll bet your mom will be happily surprised! I’m surprised to hear the bakeries around you don’t carry danish. I thought there was a rule about that
what an easy delicious recipe I wish I can get this for breakfast along with my coffee =)
Come on over, we’ll have danish and coffee whenever it is you get here!
I love the handwritten recipe! My mother has this same perfect handwriting, there are so few people these days who use the beautiful cursive writing. This is my kind of baking as well, I don’t have the patience for many recipes. I may have to make this with my kiddos soon
Welcome to the club, Jodi! It’s a great recipe to make with kids … start them baking early!
Love apple danish! So good and perfect for breakfast or dessert. Would love to make this very soon!
Thanks for stopping by Christine. Give me a shout after you make this and let me know how it turns out!
I love how easy this is! I’m definitely not a great baker and this looks right up my alley!
Sarah, I promise you, this will turn out … unless you’re one of the burning bakers … then I strongly suggest a timer!
I love how easy this is.. I do make homemade pie crust but I too will often use store bought when time is not a luxury. They are so much easier then stress ha!!
Veena, that makes me feel happy, to hear that you use premade dough. You make such beautiful cakes! Your baking skills far out rank mine!
This looks so easy to make. I always use fresh apples and homemade pie crust, but using your short cuts would be welcoming every now and again.
Dene, there’s nothing like old fashioned made from scratch recipes… but some days, quick and easy is what’s called for.
Oh this is so delicious and truly special. I love Danish pastries+baked goods and ‘Apple Danish’ is my favorite. Those spoons are so pretty and it’s so sweet of your grandmother to write notes – they are just so precious.
Molly, my grandma was very much a historian … she’d written a lot of stories about the family members, heirloom treasures and then passed that along to the kids/grandkids.
