Puppy Chow ~ Recipe
Puppy Chow is a favorite among elementary school children everywhere. Not the dog food. That’s popular with canines!
The puppy chow I’m talking about is a chocolate coated snack that looks like the dog food! That’s why elementary children are so excited about it. It looks like dog food! They act like they’re eating dog food! But it’s NOT!
My nieces were over to visit the other day and when I pulled out this recipe, their eyes lit up!
Puppy Chow
1 stick margarine / butter
1/2 cup plain peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
8 cup Crispix or Chex cereal
2 cup powdered sugar
Melt margarine, peanut butte and chocolate chips together in heavy pan. Place cereal in large bowl. Pour melted chocolate mixture over cereal. Stir with long handled spoon. Place the powdered sugar in a large brown paper grocery bag.
This is where it gets fun for the nieces!
Add the chocolate covered cereal to the bag with the powdered sugar. Roll the top closed. Hold tightly and shake. Shake for a few minutes.
When you open the bag a cloud of white powdered sugar dust will float up and out of the bag. Have the student open the bag and look to see how the puppy chow is coming along… then you can all have a good giggle at the dust covered face in a mirror!
Powdered sugar washes off, no harm done!
Divide the cereal into bowls for snacking or plastic bags to take to school for sharing.
It’s a good time for all involved! Can you see why kids love it?!
