Personal Mini Smoked Salmon Cheese Ball
Great for holiday buffets and appetizer trays, this mini cheese ball portions are small but pack powerful flavor into their bite sized shape. Having personal cheese balls allow diners to choose their preference and snacking becomes less messy.
Holiday gatherings mean snacking on appetizers. My favorite snacks are usually cheese related. This cheese ball recipe is from a vintage cookbook I’ve been reading.
The twist I put on the recipe: molding it into personal mini cheese balls instead of one giant one!
How’s that for handy?
I sometimes have trouble slicing off an appropriate amount of cheese ball to match the crackers on my plate. You know – I take three crackers and then end up with a hunk of cheese ball the size of New York.
Mini cheese balls are individual portion sizes so I can get the exact amount of cheese ball to match the crackers I’ve selected!

The original recipe was printed in Food Editors’ Favorites Treasure Recipes, in 1983. An editor from the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks, North Dakota submitted a recipe for a Salmon Roll.
Vintage cookbooks are so much fun to read. I’m afraid one of my weaknesses is collecting vintage cookbooks. I’ve got so many, I’ve decided to offer some for sale on my shop page. I love reading the recipes from different eras, since they are truly a view into what life was like at that time.

Make it a Meal:
If you fill a table with appetizers, you have a meal – right? I think they call that type of dining tapas in Spain. Add these cheese balls to your next appetizer buffet.
If you want to make a meal, serve with some Mushroom Soup and salad for a light meal.
Variations:
Replace salmon with tuna, white fish, chopped shrimp or minced ham. Roll in chopped nuts or bread crumbs.
This dish makes a great take along to your next potluck. Frankly, you can make any cheese ball recipe and shape it into smaller, bite sized balls.
I used a teaspoon to scoop out the cheese mixture, then rolled it with my hands. I really need to get one of those cookie dough scoops – the mini ice cream scoop type. That would make it easier to scoop the mixture and shape into equally sized balls.
