Ricotta Basil Dip
Ricotta basil dip with fresh tomatoes is a quick and delicious dish to have while watching your favorite football team, picnicking with your family or having cocktails and snacks on the deck. This dish takes full advantage of garden fresh basil and tomatoes.
Besides being easy enough for anybody to make, this dip is bursting with flavor!
Creamy ricotta cheese, blended with some sour cream and a handful of fresh basil leaves combined with the sweet acidic tomato juice. Can you say “hard to stop eating”?!
Honestly, eaten with some crudites, chips or spread on bread, this dip is really hard to stop munching. Advice: You’ll want to scoop some on your plate and walk away from the serving dish. If you start dipping your bagel chips into the ricotta cheese and eating them in arm’s reach of the bowl, you’ll be happily munching away until the bowl is empty.
I know this from personal experience. Please don’t tell. The good news, it was the small bowl I used to hold the overflow dip from my pretty serving dish. Just the same, it was empty.
I took this dip to a gathering with our usual Taco Tuesday crowd. We met on a Wednesday that week, and we didn’t have Tacos … but just go with me on this one. We had the usual crowd, which contains some rather gourmet tastes. This dip was a hit with everyone!
The bowl I brought home was empty. You know a dish is a winner when you don’t have leftovers to carry home!

Make It a Meal:
Served with a bowl of hearty soup and some crusty bread, you’ve got a nice light Sunday supper sort of meal.
Of course, this is a perfect party starter … put this dip on the table next to a plate containing a variety of crackers and pour some drinks. The party has begun!

Noel, this looks delish!! I must try!
Thanks Jeri, it is worth mixing up!
Hi Noel,
This sounds delicious and would make an awesome party dip. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Bren,
We’re coming into prime party season, this dip is wonderful for those impromptu get togethers!
Hi, I will definitely make it during the holidays, it will be perfect in our warm weather!
Ananda, that’s great! I hope your family loves it as much as mine does.
I love anything made with ricotta and this dip is not an exception. In Russia there’s a farmers cheese which is sort of similar to ricotta but more dense and it’s traditionally eaten with sour cream. So, flavour in this dip remind me of that.
I’d love to try some Russian Farmer’s cheese … but then, cheese is one of the best foods, ever!
A lovely sounding fresh tasting dip for the warmer weather which is on it’s way.
Gillian, I can’t wait for the warm weather!
I love simple, rustic recipes like this. And who doesn’t love ricotta and sour cream anyway? I probably would add a lot more black pepper, because I can’t get things peppery enough for my personal tastes.
By all means, Bryon, pepper away! I tend to keep things milder because the palate in my house is varied and it’s much simpler for folks to up the spice levels on a personal basis.
Oh this dip would so go beautifully with nachos… or even pita crisp.. Yum. Sour cream makes things so much better. Doesn’t it?
I’ve never met a sour cream I didn’t like!
I need to find some pita crisps and give it a try … adding to my list!
Love this dip for a party or for a potluck. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser!
It’s definitely an empty bowl that you’re bringing home!
I love how you turned ricotta into a tasty easy dip. And it sounds great with the addition of basil and would surely be hit at my house.
If you all love basil, then this is for you! Fresh basil from the garden is about as good as it gets … of course there’s the whole sour cream thing (see above! LOL)
This dip looks like a great side for the tortilla chips I just baked.. yum
What a great idea! I know what I’m doing this weekend! Making tortilla chips!!
I love how simple and easy this is, yet it’s still full of flavor! I bet this would be an awesome snack for spring and summer gatherings.
Simple is the rule! I call it #ConvenienceCooking !
If you make a dish of this, you’ll have a gathering show up as soon as the word gets out!
This sounds so good! Ricotta is my go to for ravioli, never thought about using it for a dip!! Easy and good!!
I always love a new use for an old favorite … makes it seem exciting and new again!
Speaking of ravioli … I need some…
My dad’s coming into town this week to visit, and this recipe would be perfect for having him here! He would love it. Great for entertaining!
Fix a bowl for the rest of the family too! Dad’s have been known to take possession of this bowl of dip and not share it!
Since it’s so easy to make, not a problem having two bowls!
I could eat this all day long!! This reminds me of my favorite ravioli but without the pasta! Just hand me a bowl and a baguette of crusty bread and leave me be!
LOL “and leave me be!” Jennifer, I think we’re twins!
This certainly does look like an addictive dip! Love how easy it is and has few ingredients.
We’re all about #ConvenienceCooking here at ApronFreeCooking – that means, simple steps and easy to find ingredients.
Ricotta is just so perfect, right? This looks like a great way to highlight how good it is!
I never thought about it like that. It really is the featured ingredient in this recipe!
Such an easy dip to make and I’m always looking to add new dips to my selection. I’m already thinking of so many possibilities or snacks to serve with this
I love going to a party where a whole row of dips are on the table! I get to sample them all!
