If Chicken Sandwiches Are Too Soupy
What to do if the shredded chicken you made for sandwiches is too soupy?
1. Add a tube of buttery round crackers crushed into crumbs. Not only do the crushed crackers add some buttery – salty flavor, they’re dry and absorb a lot of the soup that’s making your chicken too soupy for sandwiches.
2. Tear up several slices of bread or a bun and drop in the pot of chicken. The bread will soak up excess moisture.
3. Sprinkle a little flour over the top of the shredded chicken and stir it in. Add a little flour at a time, stirring it in completely. Allow the flour to cook a few minutes before another addition. The flour will combine with the soups in the shredded chicken to form a gravy.
4. Add a teaspoon or two of corn starch, stir into the soup. The corn starch will act as a thickening agent in the soup. Take your time adding corn starch a little at a time, because if you get too much, too fast, you’ll end up with something resembling chicken Jell-o.
5. If you have more chicken, add that to the pot. Shredded chicken sandwiches are usually very popular, so you may not have many leftovers.
6. Modify the recipe you use by making a note for the next time you prepare chicken sandwiches. Wait until all ingredients are mixed together before adding any milk or water to the mixture. Sometimes the moisture from the cooked chicken is enough to mix up the condensed soups.
If all else fails, cook some noodles and change the menu to read: “Chicken and Noodles” instead of “Shredded Chicken Sandwiches”.
