Conversion Chart for Cooking Measurements
How do you know the correct amount of an ingredient to use when you are dividing or multiplying a recipe? What you need is a conversion chart for cooking measurements.
Converting recipe measurements can be one of the most challenging steps in preparing a recipe. I’ve often found a recipe that looks delicious, but is designed to feed an entire family. If I only want to make enough for two, I have to convert the measurements into much smaller quantities.
Some are easy, for example a gallon is 4 quarts. But did you know that a gallon is also 256 tablespoons?

Some of you have asked for a conversion chart for common cooking measurements. So here are some conversion and equivalents to start you out.
Conversion Chart for Recipes
1 gallon = 4 quarts = 256 tablespoons = 768 teaspoons = 3.8 liters
4 cups = 1 quart = 64 tablespoons = 192 teaspoons = 0.95 liters
2 cups = 1 pint = 32 tablespoons = 96 teaspoons = 470 milliliters
1 cup = 8 ounces = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons = 237 milliliters
3/4 cup = 6 ounce = 12 tablespoons = 36 teaspoons = 177 milliliters
2/3 cup = 5 ounce = 11 tablespoons = 32 teaspoons = 158 milliliters
1/2 cup = 4 ounce = 8 tablespoons = 24 teaspoons = 118 milliliters
1/4 cup = 2 ounce = 4 tablespoons = 12 teaspoons = 94 milliliters
1/3 cup = 3 ounce = 5 tablespoons = 16 teaspoons = 79 milliliters
1/8 cup = 1 ounce = 2 tablespoons = 6 teaspoons = 30 milliliters
1/16 cup = 0.5 ounce = 1 tablespoons = 3 teaspoons = 15 milliliters
Doubling a recipe is really easy, you simply measure each ingredient twice. It’s dividing a recipe into smaller amounts that is so challenging.
I’ve printed this image and taped it inside my kitchen cupboard to use as a handy reference when cooking.
