Affiliate Policy

The Federal Trade Commission requires that I disclose any relationship I have between a product manufacturer or service provider when I write about a product or service.

The purpose of my site is to share information, stories and recipes.  It does take time to create all this content, so I do accept paid advertising, sponsorships, affiliate programs and other forms of compensation.  This helps to cover the costs of keeping the website operating and free to the users.  However, no money will ever impact my opinion on a product/service/company.  I am going to give mixed or negative reviews of products sometimes and turn down propositions that do not fit with my ideology.  I only accept private advertising from companies I am happy to endorse; you can see their images in the sidebar, and I occasionally mention them in posts.  Some of my current Affiliations are listed here for your information, but they can and will change at anytime, especially if I get negative feedback on your experience as a customer to one of the companies I have recommended.

I am currently an affiliate of  Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale, DreamHost, Tips & Tricks HQ, and YNAB.  There are some picture ads in the sidebar and some random text links within posts that take you to their advertisers.  I get a small fee when you either click or sign up for a product.  Thanks for doing either of those, by the way!  My affiliations change over time based on your feedback and my level of trust or respect for the product, service, or company.  That means that this particular list may not be 100 percent current.  Therefore, if you see links to products or services on these pages or in my posts, you should assume they are affiliate links.  That may not always be the case, but better safe than sorry, right?  And please, although I never recommend anything I do not believe in, do your own due diligence before making any purchases.  Make sure the item you are buying will work for you, and that you understand whatever terms of service or return policies the seller is offering.

When I write a review, the review is my own opinion, and although the company in question may certainly read my text (and I encourage them to), they do not edit or approve it in any way.  They also do n0t compensate me for reviewing the product.

  • I will NEVER recommend a product or service without having firsthand knowledge of it, or of the company that offers it.  I only recommend things I believe in.  If I would not recommend it to my mother, I will not recommend it to you, either.
  • I am never paid to do a review. I never accept money to review a product or service. I invest my own time and money to review and test products. I pay out of my own pocket the costs to produce any reviews of products or services.
  • If I create a link to a product in a review, sometimes I may get paid a (very) small commission if you purchase the product or service. The commission is not always money. Sometimes its points similar to frequent flyer miles, or a discount on my own purchases.

These are good rules and practices in today’s digital world. It is important for you as a consumer to understand the relationship between a person reviewing the product and the manufacturer or service provider. If you do not see a disclosure policy as part of a website or review of a product, that reviewer may be violating the law, or at the very least, may have questionable business ethics.
