Lavender Lemon Tea
Afternoon tea is always a nice time, but you can make it even more special with a Lavender lemon tea. Serve this pretty pink tea along with traditional black tea and you’ll be the talk of the town.
Made with fresh or dried lavender flower buds, this herbal tea is caffeine free and easy to prepare.
Benefits of Lavender
There are a few well known benefits of lavender: relaxation, stress reducer and of course the wonderful aroma.
It’s also useful with blood circulation, hair growth, antibiotic properties and respiratory issues.
Dried lavender flower buds are what I used with this tea. You could use fresh buds if you have them available. Remember the ratio of dried to fresh is 1:3. That means if you use 1 unit of measurement of dried buds, you’ll want to use three units of the fresh.
Lemon juice is always best when freshly squeezed. Store your lemons on the counter top if use them quickly.
Before squeezing the lemon, roll it on the counter, pressing down with your hand. This will break up the membranes holding the juices and you’ll extract the most possible juice from your fruit.
Honey is used as a sweetener in many recipes and that’s the main purpose it serves in this recipe.
For the best nutritional and herbal medicine benefits, use honey from a local provider. In other words, made by bees foraging in your local area. The pollen they use will be more medicinally beneficial to you.
If you buy honey at the store, check the ingredient label to make sure you are getting “real” honey. Often corn syrup is blended with honey and sold as a “honey product”.
How do I avoid floaties in my tea?
You can place the herbs in the teapot and pour directly into the cup. However, usually, you will get floating bits of the tea leaves or herbal pieces.
While there’s nothing wrong with this, most people don’t care for floaties in their tea.
The solution is to use a fine mesh strainer over your tea cup. Pour the tea into the strainer and catch all the floating herbs in it. The tea in your cup will be clear and floaty free.
Variations:
This recipe uses lemon juice, but you can exchange that with lime juice easily. The tastes is a bit brighter, slightly sharper with lime, but delicious.
Make It a Meal:
Afternoon tea may or may not count as a meal. It depends on what you serve and how late in the afternoon you take tea. Serve this tea with Banana Tea Muffins, Cappuccino Bread, Shortbread cookies, mocha cake, or fancy Banana Bread.
